  Attention all leagues
by: maxi, 18-07-2013 01:06 PM (#1)

As everyone should be aware, Bill Hunter is currently working away creating a fantastic new website for the SPA. Everyone moans about how you can't find information on this website or this isn't up to date or that isn't up to date.

So the new website will have a whole host of new features which we haven't seen or used before, but everything and I mean everything depends on all the leagues and officials participating.

Bill asked for every league to nominate a league rep, this can either be the same rep who the area have attend the SPA meetings or it can be someone else, but this will be the person who can afford the time to update the information regarding their own league onto the new site.

You will only reap what you sow I am afraid, if we continue to get next to zero cooperation then it simply won't happen.

The possibilities are endless with the new website, it will be possible that we can take voted on important proposals and everything will be transparent, everyone will be able to see how every single area voted so if reps vote for something their area didn't know about or against their wishes it will be known.

So I can I please ask every area to get involved in this, if you have already put forward a rep and they are not updating information then replace them asap.

We are not talking about something that requires 10 hours of work every week, it will maybe take 10-15 minutes at the start to fill in information about league setup etc then you are talking in minutes per month.

I will give it another week or two and then get a list of those registered by Bill and I will simply post what areas are helping and which are not. If your area is not helping then you can help change that, because if your area refuses to help then you could find yourself not being represented when decisions are being made.

Nice to read something positive on this site for a change. Can I ask if Paisley have nominated anyone yet? If not, I don't mind helping out from our area.

Cheers- well done again

Is there an up-to-date list, somewhere on this website, of the names of all SPA affiliated leagues for 2013?

Thanks Sean,

No-one has been in contact from Paisley, as far as I can tell, to act as their on-line league representative.
I will set up the user name paisley-league for you on the development site and PM all relevant details to you asap.... probably later today.

Cheers, Bill

Just to summarise what league reps would be responsible for on a new site.

Update a 'league page' with basic information about their league.
Example here...
Arbroath: http://scottishpo...e_arbroath
The information on all league pages is extracted and displayed in various tables. Examples here...
League Team Numbers: http://scottishpo...gues-teams
League Officials: http://scottishpo...-officials

League reps vote online behalf of their league.
Examples here...
Cue Ball: http://scottishpo...ll_cueball
IM Fees: http://scottishpo...ional_fund

Each rep is given a unique email address which can be used for communication between the SPA and league on pool related matters.
For example: edinburgh@scottishpool.org, glasgow@scottishpool.org, etc

Every rep is provided with a unique twitter address using which they may want to publish news about their league.
For example: @isleofbutepool, @dunfermlinepool, etc.

League reps can add details of their league events or other major local competitions (held within their area) to the website calendar.
Events List: http://scottishpo...vents-list
Click on the event names on this list for further details of each event.

____________________________________________

Over the past couple of months the following leagues have either provided a league rep or said they would provide the league rep listed below...

Arbroath, Michael Bastow.
Ayr, Colin Johnson.
Berwick, Stuart Weeks.
Central Ayrshire, Jamie McKay.
Cumbernauld, Stephen MacMillan.
Doon Valley, Colin Johnson.
Dumfries, Richard Johnstone.
Dunfermline, David Duncan.
East Ayrshire, Raymond Clark.
East Kilbride, Andrew Mason.
Edinburgh, Neil Gilchrist.
Falkirk, Scott Rae.
Glasgow, Alan Maxwell.
Inverness, Iain Gillies.
Isle of Bute, Mike McHardy.
Monklands, John Brownlie.
Motherwell, Chris Feeney.
Perth, Lee Marshall.

Many thanks to all reps who have updated league pages.

In fact only around half of the 18 league pages so far set up on the development site have been updated.
There have been 10 league reps voting in one poll and two votes have been cast in the second poll... so it's fair to say there's a very long way to go before the system is anywhere close to up and running.

Please PM or email with contact details for the online league representative selected by your league.
Many thanks.

Hi Stuart. Wasn't sure if that was going to happen or not.
Have you passed on access details, passwords, etc for updates, email, twitter account and such like?
George will have to change to his name in the berwick-league rep's user account and the Berwick league page.

.... I will PM him with details I think.

Cheers, Bill

RE: Attention all leagues

Just an update on the new site and other SPA websites.

I'm getting various messages about setting up new websites, league tables and much more.
These have nothing to do with me in fact.
I'm just testing out a development site for the SPA. Whether that works out will depend upon the extent to which the leagues and officials become involved.
I'm not receiving payments, as someone seems to think, to do work on behalf of the SPA.

So I'm afraid I can't install any new league sites, league tables or any other software. I had done some and helped folk out but can't take on any more

Also it's going to be up to individual leagues to nominate online league reps and provide details of who will take on the job.
I won't be contacting leagues myself to ask if they will provide league reps.
Finding online league reps is going to have to be arranged between SPA officials and the leagues.
When that's done, if I'm contacted with the names and contact details of the reps I'll set up the various accounts and passwords.

Unfortunately I've been spending days working on things and answering questions that really have nothing to do with me, so please contact SPA officials.... unless you are the nominated league rep and I'll forward all of the relevant info about using the site, voting, email, twitter, events calendar, etc.

Many thanks.

Most reps are still to vote in the latest poll.
I'll provide an up-to-date list of where things stand with league rep registration, voting, etc another time.
