SPA Golf Day and U18's Fundraiser
by: maxi, 01-08-2013 02:51 PM (#1)

I know Pete has been struggling to get an available date at his club for our annual Golf day, and I got a good deal to run a fundraising golf event for the U18's going to Malta, so our Y&J committee offered to joint host the event and thankfully Ross and Pete have agreed.

So all profit will be split equally between the U18 players going to Malta and the International Fund which will help send ALL teams to next years World Championships.

So the golf day will be on Saturday 31st August at the fantastic Cardrona Golf & Country Club. Tee off times have been allocated from 1pm.

Cost will be 40 and we will have some great golf prizes and also looking for some prizes to be donated, as well as the usual SPA Golf Champion trophy.

Included in the price is a roll and bacon with coffee before the round and then a 2 course dinner when you finish....

We are limited to 40 players and I will be putting this on Facebook as well so these spaces will go rapidly, we may have the chance to increase our tee off times but it's not looking likely.

First prize thats been donated by James Johnston is 40 minute lesson and 5 hole playing lesson with Scott Catlin, PGA professional at Greenburn golf club

Darren Thomson has donated a 4 ball at Crowwood as a prize.

Golf Scotland have donated a 4 ball at Cawder Golf Club as a prize

Golf Scotland have donated a 4 ball at Turnhouse Golf Club as a prize

Fantastic Maxi, Pete tried very hard to get a date/venue for the event and it was getting harder and harder to fix.

Perhaps maybe next year we do this first and work around the golf day lol.

Remember and add that Richard Johnson has once again gave us fantastic trophies for this event, free of charge.

I think after looking at the list already wanting in that a 20 non refundable deposit should be asked.

Last year Pete did the same and the names came in really fast only for lots , just like pool events to pull out even at the last minute.

I don't mind putting in my deposit and if I cannot make it then it will go towards a good cause but once we hit 40 players tend to think they cannot get in and don't then ask, only to find that a lot then don't turn up.

So get your deposit into Maxi or Pete to confirm your entry, otherwise you may lose your place to someone that will pay.

We have the Senior Scottish and IM 4 coming up, most of the players are in one of those events and I am sure Maxi will be there with the cameras, so give it to him and secure your place.

Cardrona a nice course but defo take the buggy option as it's long.

I was one of the first folk to play on Cardrona. The guy that's brainchild it was to build the village and golf course (Tom Renwick) is a top sheep breeder he owned all the ground it was built on and still sell bits of ground off for more houses. When I played Cardrona there was a fair distance between the 17th green and 18th tee. It wasn't a buggy I was needing it was a helicopter. Wrong time of year for me to play but I will say at 40 for the day this is a bargain. It's a good test of golf or was when I played it, we were playing off the medal tees you needed binoculars to see the flags.

The week before I can confirm total numbers Ross. They gave us the deal with less numbers so adding tee off times won't make a difference. If we need to reduce it that's not a problem.

Can everyone please let me know their official handicaps if they have one, if you don't have an official handicap what do you generally go round in as one will be allocated.

Won't be any sharks off 24 or 28 this year...

Be 18 maximum.

Some great prizes to add to the list, Stevie Moir who runs Golf Scotland which you have seen advertise their cracking Race to Dubai events has very kindly given us 2 prizes to offer:-

A 4 ball at Cawder Golf Course

and

A 4 ball at Turnhouse Golf Course

Not played Turnhouse myself but I can vouch for Cawder as being one of the best central belt golf courses in Scotland....

Two fantastic prizes, cheers Stevie. Big thanks to Stevie as well as he very kindly got us the deal at Cardrona which will help raise substantial funds for the International Fund and the U18's as well as a great day out to everyone who is attending.

Still a place or two available if anyone still wishes to add their name. It's a week on Saturday.

Here is the address and a little map to help everyone find their way on Saturday, remember first tee off is 1pm so can everyone try and be there just after 12 so you have plenty of time to get your roll and let us get everything sorted to get people out on time.

Cardrona Peebles near Edinburgh EH45 8NE Tel 0844 879 9024
