  Superleague Structure
by: maxi, 27-08-2013 02:39 PM (#1)

I keep seeing wrong definitions of how the leagues will work, it's very simple in that there is relegation and promotion. Only caveat to that is new areas joining have been guaranteed at least their A teams taking part, so this may mean A teams starting in Division 2 and teams which avoided relegation the year before being demoted.

If all the same teams enter the 11s next year this is how the leagues will look:-

Premier Division

Central Ayrshire A
Bannockburn A
Dumfries A
Ayr & District A
Edinburgh A
Clackmannan A
Midlothian A
Livingston A
Dunfermline A
West Renfrew A
Uddingston A
Inverness A
Monklands A
Falkirk A
East Fife A
Glasgow A
Whitburn A
Doon Valley A
Coatbridge A
Arbroath A

And they will be joined by

Cumbernauld A
Monklands B
Glasgow B
Uddingston B who were all promoted.

1st Division

Central Ayrshire B
Motherwell B
Nairn B
Ayr & District B
East Kilbride B
West Renfrew B
Edinburgh B
Livingston B
Dunfermline B
Clackmannan B
Perth A
Kilmarnock A
Whitburn B
East Kilbride A
Midlothian B
Falkirk B

And they are joined by

Berwick A
Motherwell A
East Ayrshire A
Kilsyth A who were all demoted from Premier

and

Midlothian C
Edinburgh C
Central Ayrshire C
Inverness B who were promoted from 2nd division

2nd Division

Arbroath B
Uddingston C
Falkirk C
Motherwell C
East Fife C
E/K C
Clackmannan C
West Renfrew C
Dumfries B
Monkands C
Glasgow C
Ayr & District C

And they will be joined by

Clydebank A
Ladies A
Isle of Bute A
East Fife B who were demoted

and

Bannockburn B
Kilmarnock B
Dunfermline C
Cumbernauld B who all won their play off matches.

Those bottom 4 are the first teams at risk if every team entered again and there are any new areas join as they will drop in turn from bottom up as new A teams are put in division 2.

Dumfries C
Edinburgh D
Coatbridge B
East Ayrshire B were all demoted to playoffs.

What the membership have to know is that the TC set this up, trying to get teams playing on a level field.

We all know that certain leagues have far better players in their B teams than other leagues have in their A teams and it may take a good few years to see if this system works out but at least the SPA are trying to give ALL teams a better chance of not just playing in the Supers but winning match's at the Supers.

That's right Ross, in a few years as teams climb and drop we will once and for all have a true Superleague with each division being the most competitive they have ever been.

I know that we'd have a few disappointed people from Cumbernauld B if they couldn't compete in the 11s next year. Think all bar 2 people it was their 1st time playing in the event. Appreciate that it's a thankless task, would it mean there would be playoffs to decide which of the 4 teams would not have a place?

It'd be absolutely gutting to have won promotion but not actually get it for any team.

The teams are ranked in order.

Sorted the Coatbridge issue, I had put the 4 teams being demoted as the same 4 teams who won promotion, cut and paste wrong group blush

For a team to gain promotion from 2nd division and miss out would require at least 25 new areas joining....

What about if a new A team joins? Do they not have preference in the premier/1st division? If so that would see a promoted team demoted..

Any area that enters a team which were not even represented from the list of areas above will only be guaranteed their A team in the 2nd division, any other teams they enter will start in the playoffs.

So doesn't matter if they are new areas or existing areas who havent played at the Superleague for a while, they go straight into 2nd division and will take them two years minimum to get to Premier.

How?

If you have a league system any new entries must expect to start at the bottom and work their way up.

Do we tell Antz since he has joined the IM this year, 'your too good to have to qualify, you should be top 16, there you go' or does he need to force his own way into the top 16?

It's the same principle.

I presume the 'Dunfermline B' in 2nd Division should actually be Dumfries B Maxi?

An area can enter 20 teams if they wish but apart from ones listed above they will be in the playoffs.
