Another example of why this event shoyld either be seeded or no points. Bennie and Bossman hitting each other in our qualifiers joke.

Been happening for years.

I'd like to see all the IMs an open draw with only last years champion through to the final. Give all the players a chance of a decent draw.

Perhaps although it could distort the rankings somewhat, granted the very best will always rise to the top but top 16 aside you could have guys gaining ranking points based on a good draw.

The whole Scottish singles distorts the rankings with it being the only unseeded part of the ranking system and guys taking part and beating players who are not even part of the ranking system !! helpless

The original point of rankings was for international selection. The rankings have been largely ignored the last few years and now don't serve any purpose so why not just open it up and give everyone the same chance? Protecting 64 players is too much.

Can the list for Cowdenbeath entries be posted on here or a by PM please.
Send it to either Brian Thomson (area rep) or myself.
There is a guy "Jamie west" been missed out the draw.
He paid his money to Brian Thomson so we need to see if He was on the list given to SPA or if Brian has missed him

I've spoken to Brian and confirmed Jamie's name is not on the list.

I'd second that open draws was always the way to do it.

I know hence why I said it should either be seeded or non ranking :-)

RE: 2016 Scottish Singles Area Draws
by: FlyingScotsman, 19-07-2016 02:13 PM (#20)

This has been discussed numerous times and always the majority have voted to keep the Scottish Singles a ranking event but with no seeds.

The top seeds have always been looked after in the IM events be it top 16 or top 64 where they are kept apart from each other until they meet in whatever round.

for one event of the year, yes the biggest it is an pen event where players can play whoever right from the word go, that is why in my opinion an IM event is harder to win than the Scottish because the top players could all be in the same section and others who are lucky can get great draws right up to the final but if you check the records you will see that it has nearly always been a top player who has won the tile.

Our Vc has a point, if players want a change then instead of changing the Scottish to a seeded event, change all Ims to open events and lets see what happens then.
The best players will still win the events but just as the Scottish has drawn Scott to play Steven, this will happen more and other top players will not qualify, will not get into the prize money and will not be selected for Internationals.
