  Scottish Open Singles 2017
by: FlyingScotsman, 03-05-2017 10:04 AM (#1)

This years Scottish Open Pool Championships will take place at the Players Lounge over the weekend of 13/15th October.

I am delighted to announce that Belhaven Brewery will sponsor this years event.

With the Premier Pool club in Scotland hosting the event, using 12 tables, this will mean that the races starting from the very first qualifiers will be the best of 17 frames.

Qualifiers will come from all over Scotland, each SPA league will submit their entries at the July meeting and the pro rata will be worked out at that meeting, with 127 qualifiers joining the current Scottish, European and World Champion Mr Liam Dunster at the finals.

Posters will be done shortly and sent out to all leagues and I ask you to circulate them to as many of your venues as possible.

Entry fee remains at just 5, with a guaranteed prize fund of 5k.

Ross McInnes

Someone from my league has posed the question can anyone in Scotland enter this, whether they are registered with a league or not and if so does the area that person is from have to let them play in their qualifiers?

Any eligbable to play in the SPA can play in any region if accepted so long as they are not tied to another area.

Entries in for July it says on post. July 2nd is SPA meeting so I would say it's that date.

I would like to run a qualifier for the Scottish singles through my local league (Clydesdale league).

We do not have any members playing IMs, but we are affiliated to the SPA.

Is it possible for me to run a local qualifier and what is the minimum number of entrants expected in order to meet the pro rata requirements for at least one qualifier?

Thanks in advance

All member leagues can run qualifiers but its based on a pro rata and we do not know that until all the entries come in.

If any league falls short then their players get put in the league next to them.

Last year it was around one qualifier for every8/9 entries but I think that figure will go up this year.

The main event starts on Saturday morning at 10 am, Friday night is just for players who are travelling a long way to come over and practice.

A member of Clydebank wants to play in the doubles with a member of the Glasgow league is this allowed?

Depends if the member of Clydebank plays IM or played at the 11s for Clydebank or if the Glasgow player plays IM Or played counties at the 11s this year for Glasgow

Matt, as a few others have mentioned, it is wholly dependent on the eligibility of each player.

In a nutshell, has either player played/registered to play an SPA event this year? If both players have, and they are registered to Clydebank and Glasgow respectively then they cannot enter the SPA doubles as a pair. They must choose a player from their own area.

After the deadline for payment has passed and when the payments have been collated to ensure everyone has paid. I'd estimate tomorrow (Monday) evening.
