  Nations Cup 2020 Cancellation
by: scottishslack, 14-03-2020 09:06 PM (#1)

Hi SPA,

Are there and plans in place to support our international players who are now hundreds of pounds out of pocket in non-refundable accommodation costs? I dont know much about SPA bank balances etc but I feel its unfair that some of our players are hundreds of pounds down though no fault of their own. If we can help we should.

Could I get some form of response to this from someone on the SPA committee please? Thanks in advance.

Chris, this is the first time I've logged in since late last week, so apologies for not having responded sooner.

We are all facing challenging times at the moment and I haven't had time to discuss any matters over the weekend with the SPA Executive Committee about this matter.

What I can say though is, that the SPA made an operating loss last year which paints a picture of what we have available in disposable funds.

It is very unfortunate circumstances for everyone involved in this matter, even more so for those that will potentially be out of pocket through absolute no fault of their own.

Those that have booked via a credit card may have some recourse through protection offered by their card.

Now, that's not the door closing on any funding being offered to players at this juncture, I'm merely giving an update.

There is a sum of money raised through the SPA Affiliations, I mention this because people are well aware of it, however, when this was introduced, it was categorically stated that these would not be used to fund international pool. If this was to change it would require approval by the memberships.

This likely isn't what the international guys wish to hear, I get that. But it's an update at best for the time being.

Regards,
Michael

Is there a clear breakdown of ins and outs anywhere for the
Members to see? Don't want to go into rumours but there's a few
Story's flying about relating to funds being used without members
Being informed.

There are operating costs such as web hosting, League App Live along with the funding of the youth and juniors managers to international events.

The accounts were furnished at an SPA meeting back in July (from memory), I can't be certain. There is a fully detailed ledger that the accountant audits also.

Rest assured there has been no funds spent, without members approval, other than operating costs.

That's the thing with rumours, they usually stem from lack of knowledge and understanding. Facts are typically a good measure of truth.

The last report I seen had 60k sitting in it now there's
Insufficient funds. Should be at least a quarterly report for all

Nobody has said there are insufficient funds? Now you're trying to start rumours Smile

The SPA may have produced accounts showing 60k in the bank, but, and I'm just quoting from memory, this had a substantial amount of prize monies, accommodation costs associated with Superleague etc within it, all costs that were outgoing as quickly as they went in.

I've also stated there is a detailed ledger that is audited by the accountant on a yearly basis, which then allows us to produce the accounts. The production of accounts are only done annually.

Anyways, I'd love to spend more time with you all, but I'm signing out for a few days whilst I move house. bug

Why would it matter who it came from if
Nothing is untoward. Just for clarity its from more than 1
Person. Spa funds have always seemed to be top secret which
Shouldn't be the case from the members!

Your talking crap Mr Muir, if that is the case I could say that people said this or that about you and that would be wrong.

Anyone could say anything about ? and you can post this or that but unless you have a fact then you are talking rubbish.

The SPA accounts are there for any member to see what they spend it on but its people like yourself that say things and try to cause trouble.

So if you have any other rumours or hear of any, then please post them for all to see on here.

I'm not sure if using the members fivers would be against the spirit of the agreement when they were collected. This was put in place to stop the usual beneficiaries putting their hands out and also so that world championship players didn't benefit twice, i.e. from the WC fund and the members fivers, which is only right.

However in this instance this would be to reimburse members, parents and international players for losses incurred out of their own pockets for an event they were willing to pay for on their own and which they now cannot attend.

I understand there would be an argument that this would not be "for the benefit of the game" but, and this is only a personal opinion, there are many internationalists out there who are many thousands of pounds out of pocket over their years representing the SPA and I think at the very least this should be considered.

Would allow me to change dates for my apartment

If it will be at brid next year.however with changing
Circumstances or.advisory for no unnecessary
