I watched the American Werewolf in London last night, good film actualy forgot how good it was,
made a wee change from watching Lee Evans,Frankie Boyle,Kevin Bridges,Jaws,Green Mile,Shawshank Redemption, I say made a wee change because these are the films I usualy stick on and just fall asleep listening to.

What was the last movie you watched?

Caddyshack. Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, Ted knight et al.

Has dated a bit, but full of classic funny moments and quotes.

I watched some of these ages ago. Haven't seen anything great recently. Watchmen is on this weekend if anyone likes those graphic novels turned movies...300, Sin City, Batman, etc. I think it's the best of the lot by a long way. Great soundtrack too.

3 undiscovered gems...

Happy, Texas (comedy with two prison escapees disguising themselves as beauty pageant/talent contest experts)

Half Nelson (can't explain other than to say it is a drama about a teacher)

Black Death (think it was called that...Sean Bean as a knight during the times of the plague...looked rubbish...was pretty good)

Disappointing....

I Am Legend (good start but fizzed out....rubbish ending)

Inbetweeners the Movie, not too bad, some good laughs in there.

If it's films that you would stick on and have watched multiple times then two films I have watched on several occasions is Layer Cake, one of my favourites and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Robert Downie jnr is superb.

Layer Cake is excellent. Haven't seen the other one.

Dead Man's Shoes is really good too. The lead actor out that is good in everything he does...Bourne Ultimatum, Hot Fuzz, In America....think his name is Paddy Considine.

I want to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but haven't been yet as have a heavy chest infection. Hopefully I'll see it next weekend. Kill List looks good too. (This is the season for spy films - even Spooks has restarted.)

Last movie seen....In Bruges (again)...8/10.

I loved NES as a kid.

NES, Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Police Academy, Weird Science, Mannequin, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The 3 Amigos, Splash, Big, Goonies, Gremlins, Labyrinth, Indiana Jones, Return Of The Jedi......80s kids movies were brilliant.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would even though it lifts a lot of scenes from the original and even though it's a prequel so you kind of know what will happen - so not much suspense there.

what about TV series on just now?

IMO Sky Atlantic is of Carlsberg standard at the moment.

Game of Thrones is due back on in March, Blue Bloods is just starting and a new US College Football based drama starting end of Feb called Friday Night Lights which looks awesome.

Then comes series 2 of Terra Nova and series 3 of Boardwalk Empire (probably thee best serial in TV history)

Boardwalk Empire is decidedly average compared to the Sopranos, 24, and The Wire, the three best shows ever even better than emmerdale

I liked "Homeland" when I was watching it in the autumn there. I see it starts soon on C4 too so I recommend people give that a go.

There's another programme I saw last week to do with a robbery of a cash counting house. I think it was called Inside Man or something like that. It was pretty good as well and the guy who plays the lead role in it is always in good programmes (think his name is Steven MacIntosh - he was in Cracker and stuff like that back in the 90s).

Game Of Thrones - I watched the first series and really liked it, so I'm going to be watching that too.

I still watch Supernatural even though it's not up to much these days to be honest. It peaked around series 4-5.

First two series of Lost were really good too until it all got a bit muddled and they started reacting to audience feedback rather than just telling the story they set out to.

Messiah from years back is a good detective series.

IT crowd, South Park, Black Books, Roman's Empire were all good comedies.

Can't think of anything else really. There's loads I've never really watched.

Inside Men (miniseries). Highly recommended.

I see The Hobbit is out at the end of this year. Not sure how that will work out. Visually, the LOTR series was really impressive but the drama side of it was all a bit twee. I suppose the books would be the same though if I was to go back and read them now.

What other big movies are planned this year? I know there's the new Batman movie and The Avengers as well. Any other biggies?

IMDb Rating 7.2/10

If you like Korean movies then you will like this....

I rate this 7.8/10

Hae-won is a beautiful single woman in her thirties who works at a bank in the Seoul city. She leads a busy life until she becomes a witness to an attempted murder case, and at the same time, things get complicated at work. When things get out of hand she is forced to take a vacation so she heads for 'Moodo', a small undeveloped island, where she had once visited to see her grandparents. And where she had befriended a girl named Bok-nam who stills writes to Hae-won asking her to visit despite the fact that Hae-won never bothered to reply. Upon arriving at the island, Hae-won is shocked to see everyone treating Bok-nam like a slave. As practically the only young woman on the island, she is a plaything for all the men and a free laborer for the women. Sick of all the inhumane treatment, Bok-nam had tried to escape the island several times in the past but had failed each time. She begs Hae-won to help her escape the place...

The bad guy, who's supposed to be scary, has the voice of Shrek for some reason. I managed about 20 mins.

I liked it but it did peter (griffin) out a bit towards the end and it wasn't exactly what I expected. I thought it would be a guy who has a bear as an imaginary friend and people treating him like he was crazy because of that, but it's an actual bear that the whole world sees and interacts with. The bear was really funny - the guy/girl relationship stuff was the usual filler.

I heard it compared to Bad Santa in an earlier review but I think Bad Santa was a far better film. Revised mark 6.5/10 ;)

Oh, the new Total Recall is the worst movie I've seen in quite some time.

It would have been a better film if they got rid of Mila Kunis and her on/off relationship with Mark Wahlberg (double her age) and just concentrated on the bear. Even better if the bear was imaginary and they'd cast Will Ferrell instead of Marky Mark because it would suit him better.

But I liked it when I watched it. It's just afterwards I'm thinking it never felt right and could have been better.

I still liked the bear though.

Someone give me feedback on Total Recall. Is it that bad? I thought it was plumbing Highlander 5 depths at one stage.

The Cabin In The Woods 8/10

I'd heard very mixed reports about this film, mostly negative, but I really liked it. It reminds me of a short story called The Lottery if anyone read that in high school. It's a similar idea. It's a mix of many different genres of horror - a bit of Lovecraft, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cube, Night Of The Living Dead, Evil Dead, The Ring, so many references that you'll never spot them all. I'd have went for a different ending though. I think they missed an opportunity.

Person Of Interest (series) 2/10

Dreadful. Utterly ridiculous premise, hammy acting, repetitive storylines (every episode seems to follow the same path). Just another really bad American spy/cop series to go along with all the others that are cropping up recently.

Edit - The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

Red lights - 5/10. Average and completely forgettable despite a strong cast..

Resident evil : retribution - 1/10. Pure garbage. So bad it's almost good as a parody but I don't think that was the intention. Special mention to the blonde woman who's the leader of the bad guys. You just have to see it to believe how bad a movie can be. Makes Highlander 5 look like Dog Day Afternoon.

Prometheus - 7/10. Mostly poor reviews but I quite liked it. It's very familiar territory though.

Compliance. 7/10.

I was unsure how to judge this as it's at times sickening as it pushes the boundaries as far as it can. It's interesting if you are interested in the whole deference to authority thing that the Milgram experiment showed. Not sure about the true story claims though - seems a bit extreme.

The House At The End Of The Street. 5/10

Great first scene, but it then settles into cliche and mediocrity as these type of movies tend to do. 6/10

An apocalyptic tale about the dangers of messing with nature. 5/10

Skyfall

Usual Bond stuff, okay if you like that kind of thing. Personally, I'm a bit bored with it all. I thought CR and QOS were better Bond movies anyway with stronger stories. 4/10

The Hobbit part 1 - Decent enough. If you've seen LOTR then it's very much like that. 7/10

The Devil and Daniel Johnston. Documentary about a Texan songwriter who hit it big 20 years ago when Cobain was championing him. As his career was taking off his bipolar disorder became unmanageable. 10/10

John Dies At The End. Offbeat horror/comedy/sci-fi similar to the Evil Dead. 9/10

Killing Them Softly 7/10

A bit of a cliche (how many movies are about hitmen these days?). Saved somewhat by a fantastic soundtrack, and Gandolfini is always good to watch.

Django Unchained 9/10

Superb movie. Stylish, great music and dialogue, very violent....all the usual Tarantino ingredients. Amongst his best. It's about time he moved away from the revenge thrillers though and tried something else.

Haven't seen any films I fancy recently. Off topic but can anyone recommend any series out there? I've tried a few and can't get into them at all.

Supernatural - Now on season 9, been rubbish since season 5. 2/10
Game Of Thrones - Has it's moments, still the best series about. 7/10
Person Of Interest - Just pure ridiculous. 1/10
The Following - Good premise, boring execution. 3/10
Cult - The Following's B team. 1/10
Dexter - OK at times. Dubious premise. 5/10
Walking Dead - My kind of thing but when when it's expanded to the size of a multi-season series it loses the sense of danger. It's also really really obvious what's going to happen most of the time. And the acting is a bit ropey at times too. I'm sick of the stock redneck character.
House of Cards - American remake of the British 90s hit. I could barely watch it. It wasn't terrible just not very interesting. Suffers in comparison to the original. 3/10

Basically, I hate just about every series that's on telly these days. Why can't they make another Messiah, State of Play or House Of Cards (all British). Why can't Americans make decent series (generally)? The only things I've liked that were American are Heroes season 1, Lost season 1 and 2...and that's about it. Even they got ruined through time (the Americans use about 30 different writers so the story always suffers through inconsistencies and they always pander to the audience figures).

The only things the Americans excel in is animation as far as I'm concerned. I'm also sick of Fringe type shows about unexplained phenomena/aliens/mutants and all that nonsense. There must be about 50 different ones which are all really variations of the same theme, all of them garbage - the last decent American series of that type was Dark Skies and that was 15 years ago.

If you're looking for a decent series, try Breaking Bad. Currently in it's fifth season, but freely available as a torrent. I'd highly recommend it.

If you haven't tried out Homeland i would say it's certainly worth a go. Very interesting story and the acting is brilliant. Also Boardwalk Empire is worth a punt. It takes it's time to get going but is a good watch. Am watching Breaking Bad just now. It is above average, but not as good as the first two mentioned.

Breaking Bad - Great call. I forgot about that one. It's actually my favourite current series by a distance. It and South Park.

Homeland - I watched and liked season 1. Lost interest in season 2. Wasn't moving fast enough for me. Saul was a great character though.

Boardwalk Empire - My mate goes on about this all the time but I haven't watched it yet because I'm a bit bored of the gangster genre.

Sons of Anarchy - I don't fancy this at all. I've never been into the Hells Angels stuff or that kind of machismo setting.

I would return and finish season 2, it is very gripping. The Sons of Anarchy should be better than it is. Didn't find there was alot of credibility in it, but it was a decent enough watch, just by no way justifies the hysteria surrounding it from folk. A think folk like the idea of the show as a cool thing rather than the delivery of it. A wanted to like it, but a found vast parts very corny. To each their own and all that. Good sountrack to it tho. I Shazzamed a fair few tracks off that series!

As a bit of a rock fan, I had high hopes for this, even with Tom Cruise in it. As it turns out, it was like a totally NO SWEARING!! mash-up of Mama Mia and Bill and Ted....

Funny accents and explosions. Never did like Star Trek...

Iron Man 3 5/10

More of the same.

Alien Resurrection 5/10

Complete remake of the first 3 with the same stock characters. Reborn Ripley, hidden android, baddie science guy, smattering of tough guys with big guns, and acid-blood aliens. Watch one of the 1st two films instead. Ridley Scott has now made the same film 5 times!

Cant fault your comments with Iron Man 3 Jim - I thought it was very repetitive - if not for Downey if would have been a complete washout IMO, but think you need to cut Ridley a break. He only made the original "Alien" movie - Pretty sure all the subsequent Alien movies (up until "Prometheus" at least, were made by different directors. (James Cameron did Aliens for instance)

Quite right, he was producer on some maybe. I love Alien and Aliens but they are all very similar. Prometheus was better. Whoever was responsible for 3 and 4 could have tried some new ideas though. 4 especially was just a cash-in on the series name.
