Happy to inform the players that the Jackie Paterson 5 person team events will be held at Pettycur Bay over the weekend of 5/7th May 2017.
The teams who attended last year, will once again be given a certain amount of time to enter before I open it up to others.

So for the full months of December/ January only the teams that attended this year can enter the event.

Teams that did not come this year can still enter on here and I will list them in order of date of entry, this way I believe will be fair on every team.

The event is limited to only 48 teams, this year however there will only be groups of 4 which is smaller than years before but instead of best of 9 the frames will be increased to best of 15, with all frames being played. [ changed based on teams attending last year asking]

Costs are as follows £40 per player[ max 6] plus entry fee of £50 per team.

Prize fund this year will be £3000 based on 48 teams entering.

Bank details will be added later on this page but as I said no need at this time of year to send any money at all, just your team name and players in each team, these can be changed however if some players cannot make it on the day.




As from previous years, only one superstar per team and players have to play from the same IM area, only exception will be for any Lady players.
A Superstar, in my opinion and that’s the one that counts, is someone I believe has/could/would play for the Scottish A team.

If you do not play in the same IM area then you will not be able to play, so don’t even ask.

There may be a few teams who come from non members of the SPA but all these will be checked based on one superstar as well.

A one hundred pound non refundable deposit will be taken, if any team pulls out for whatever reason, after paying their deposit, that money will be given to the Mick McGoldrick Foundation.



Groups of 4 with the top 3 from each group going through to the knockout stages,long with the 4 best placed fouth teams, which gives us 40 teams, the bottom 16 using the stats from each group will play off to get into the last 32.

Two points for a win.
Frames for next.
If tie, then result from match.

Prize fund based on 48 teams;

Winners £1200
Runners Up £600
Semi x 2 £300
Quarters x 4 £150


Medals for winners and runners up along with team winner trophy.

This event is a fun event, no dress code and ALL Scottish players are allowed to send teams to this, we have had just last year a good few players who were not SPA players playing in this event, who went back to their leagues informing them of BB rules etc and who have now got their leagues to join with the SPA and this can only help us grow each year.

This year you will see that we have changed the format to only groups of 4, less match’s but more frames, all played out, this also means that on the Saturday we will NOT start early and NOT finish late, as I said this is a fun event and the players attending will have loads of time to do other things on the Saturday night.

Sunday however will be long for the teams that go all the way, starting at 9 am with the bottom 16 teams playing of to get into the last 32, then straight knockout best of 15 , increasing frames at the last 8 on wards.

I would like to enter a team but having to play a 5 Man semi final on 4 tables last year was a joke. You cant get any team spirit going and definitely affects all players playing. I know you can say its the same for both players but its not the point for a national championships. Would this happen again? By the way, this is my only criticism of the event.

What state will the caravans be?

The caravan we had was disgusting. We got it changed to a slighter better disgusting caravan.
£200 for a dirty smelly caravan is not my idea of fun I'm afraid Ross.
So unless there are guarantees that the caravans will be clean and habitable then stick Red Hot Chilli Potters in.

Just check that I have added your name in the right place, at present we have 54 teams entering, last year it was up to around the 70 mark but as usual teams pull out for one reason or another and last year I had less than the 48 teams.

As I said I will give up to the end of this month for teams who entered last year, to enter again, then if not full will take it in order of entry , new teams for this years event.

Will be asking for a non refundable £100 deposit this time, if then a team pulls out and I cannot replace them, I have something to cover the cost of the caravan I have to take, if however I get a replacement, this will cover my costs and any £100 deposits will go to the Mick McGoldrick Foundation.

Sorry John, you did tell me that you were putting your team in again but been very busy and did not add it.

Can everyone else just make sure their team is in, please.

While I am here, just to confirm, no players who are members of the IMs can play in any other area.

Only one superstar, in each team, with that I mean a player who has played or is playing for any International A team OR who I believe is good enough to play in the A International A team.

These players are the best, in my opinion.

Updated, 59 teams wanting in, just under a week to go for last years team to enter, to make sure they get in.#

At the start of February I will list the teams from last year along with any new teams, for the first 48, then list the reserves in order.

Teams will have one month to pay a non refundable deposit, then one other month to pay the full balance, if not already paid before I ask any reserve teams to take their place.

What I would say to the teams not in the first 48, I had nearly 70 last year and ended up a couple short, so you may still get in.

Feels like team spirit was in last year but on my list from last year, I had it under Jimmy McMeekin, will update them and also the Merchant club , who I had under Arbroath.

I will list the reserve list shourty, as I said I expect a good few to change their mind, so if your on the resrve list, you have a good chance of getting in.

Have to say that once again, very disappointed in the response of teams not even paying their deposits at this time, maybe wrong but with only one day to go to get your deposits in on time I only have 20 paid that or in full.

So no matter who you are, I don't really care to be honest, I will be adding the reserve list come Wednesday and it will be the first 48 teams who pay their deposits who will get in.

To many times in the past I have waited far to long , giving teams far to much time to do this or that only to be let down by a couple.

Last year, as I said I had 70 odd teams at one stage wanting in, in the end only 46 did enter, I still paid out the prize fund I advertised, still gave one team this year a free place for the Mick McGoldrick and still gave one free place for the winner of the plate event last year.

The event has been advertised for months, holding back and allowing teams that were in last year to get a deposit in this time, so times up boys and girls, you have today, tomorrow to get your deposits in, then I open up the reserve list and it is first come.

We were down as 12th reserve but have now disappeared off the list. Declan gave you our deposit on Saturday.

I see a Ballroom Basher's on the list but I think that was a different team.

I will not let what has happened in previous years happen again, I need this event full, as there are only groups of 4 now and cannot have teams turning up playing only two match's even if it is the full 15 frames.

So lets start with, out of the pool,[41] never heard anything back so adding Hayley's team, to the list now and I know she will not let me down.

Darren your up next son and will contact you when I get back from Dubai on Monday , at that time I should know a lot more on who are playing this year.

Have taken out Tam Rankin, as he has not contacted me, in any way, added Darren team now and updated the ones who have contacted me, looking good to be honest to have the full 48 teams but no matter what as I have always done in the past I will pay out the full amount quoted but I think this time its really about giving the groups the full 3 matchs, yes if one is short then they will all qualify but I really want this to be full.

Draw getting done this week, can I get lead name for caravans please, that person will pay the deposit and get it back when they check the caravan is fine when leaving.

Can players also note that the waterfront will be closed from around 2pm until 7 pm on Friday for a funeral party.

Thanks to young Kevin for doing the draw tonight along with Jacko and Liam.

This is not the Supers where they tell you where they come from but as we are starting at 7 pm and I don't see any team from far away in the first 4 groups, I'm just going to make this easy.

Groups 1/4 7 pm
Groups 5/8 9 pm
Groups 9/12 11 pm

I have allocated 2 hours per match as we are going to play all 15 frames on one table, some may finish before others, so they can be used to catch up if needed.

We then start at 10 am the following morning, so lots of sleep if you need it and we should, if timings go ok finish around 10 pm that night.
So again if you want to go out that night, you will have plenty of time.
