Thread subject: The Scottish Pool Association :: Pools Got Talent... Singing That Is.

Having witnessed some of our Kareoke acts in Bridlington i think it would be a great idea to hold a ......Pools Got Talent... Singing That Is...... night for a fundraiser for France or whatever.

There must be an abundance of singers (Pool Players )out there who can go on to a stage and sing live.

I'm sure we can have an audience 150 to 200 people from all over scotland who would be willing to attend.

Personally i think it would be a great night.

What do you all think????

I would be up for attending with a few of the Falkirk boys.

Wouldn't be singng right enough!

This is a great idea. Im sure we would get a venue, equipment and enough singing talent to make this a viable option for fundraising.

I think we have the ideal venue in Hustlers, upstairs must hold at least 200 people and also a stage. I will give Daz a call and see what he can come up with. If this goes ahead there will have to be a commitee as the show will take a lot of hard work too set up and make it as professional as possible. Any good compares out there.

He'd take some beating as a singer too. Am led to believe his "Hot Love" is different class.

Goobsy for compere a wee five minute stand up will warm the crowd up nicely!

have been talking to a couple of people about this and think this could be a massive chance to raise funds and have a great night.the sooner a sub committee is set up to organise this the better.kenny donald has some great ideas on this as does dennis.i have some ideas myself and think davy nick should be involved also.lets try and get a meet together and get this planned.think it should be a fund raiser for brid next year and it will be supported by all the players and areas.

Don't think fundraising for Bridlington next year is such a good idea. Any amount you can hope to raise from this will be like a drip falling in an ocean when you consider how many players attend Bridlington and it would need to be distributed evenly.

The whole point of fundraising this year was to try and get our teams to the World Championships in France where there is absolutely no prizemoney.

At least in Brid you have a chance of covering your costs in prizemoney.

We are a long way short of raising the necessary funds for France, so lets not lose sight of what we are all trying to achieve.

Oh, and stick me down for the singing.

now maxi dont want to get involved in a petty arguement but we have to look at getting funds for bridlington where more people play.if we start now we have a real chance of making an impact in every sections funds for next year.we will also get the support of everyone if we have a bridlington fund seperate to an international fund.what do people think on this.

Posted by dishoftheday on 12/05/2010 12:39

Why not share the proceeds? After all, every little helps.

Posted by maxi on 12/05/2010 12:51

I just think there is a huge concerted effort to raise fund for the International fund, and now you want to dilute this to fund Bridlington.

Facts are there are around 30 people going to France to have the International fund split between so it can make a big difference to those attending.

At Bridlington there are approx 45 in mens teams. 18 in seniors teams, around 20 odd in ladies teams, around 30 specials, around 45 Y&J's.

So we are talking in the region of 160-170 players.

And we currently have approx 5k raised for the International fund with a target of around 10k to pay for their flights and accommodation.

If by some miracle you could raise ANOTHER 10k it would mean around 60 per player. So would perhaps pay a couple of nights B&B.

I am not trying to make a petty argument out of this, just trying to make everyone realise how futile raising funds for Bridlington is due to the sheer amount of players who attend.

Get your facts right Renzie, the learning disability section decided NOT to attend France. As they assumed their would be a B event in the UK they could attend instead. And Steve said as much at the EBA AGM, he said if they knew Selsey was cancelled they may have went to France.....

But don't let facts get in the way or anything.

Posted by alligator on 12/05/2010 14:15

want some facts.ok how does fundraising for france help the mens b teams the ladies b teams the senior b teams the learning disability team half the mens a team half the ladies a team.fact is disnae help them at all.

Posted by alligator on 12/05/2010 14:18

some more facts half the juniors half the youths half the under 21s or 23s the under 21 b team.enough facts.

another fact the lds where playing in the european masters untill it got changed to their world championships 10 minutes before they started.strategic planning there.trevor was so embarrassed.heads should have rolled for this alone.

Posted by alligator on 12/05/2010 14:28
#38

you have a big empty heid another fact.

Posted by maxi on 12/05/2010 14:31
#39

So why not mention them to begin with rather than pick one section out and think you were being clever.

At the risk of repeating myself, there are too many players attend Bridlington to be able to raise sufficient funds to make it worthwhile.

How much prizemoney did you get for winning the European Masters per player for the Mens A team Renzie? 40 odd each?

And every single person said how you spend approx 500 for the week, probably more and only get that in prizemoney and it's worthless. But that is exactly the type of figure your talking about raising for these same players.

Unless you can raise around 30k it won't even make a dent.

The difference in raising money for France is that it's all about the prestige of playing for medals and not money.

It's been brought up at SPA meetings countless times and it always ends the same way, Bridlington cannot be subsidised due to the numbers attending.

Raising money to send teams to France is the difference in having Scotland represented in all divisions.

How many Scottish teams attended Swaziland or Germany?

The International fund needs to raise as much as it can, and I feel your suggestions will derail this process and dilute the potential funds.

But that is just my opinion.

Boys, i have done this half dozen times and it is a real money maker......we called it Stars in thier Peepers and it was on same lines as TV. stars in their eyes..........All contestants get dressed as the person they are singing as....I actually allowed some of the people to mime if they wanted as it was mostly all about entertainment not just good singers, that way every body had a chance of winning.........First one i ever did about 4 or 5 years ago the pub made 4000 so it shows you what can be acheived....If you need any help just pm me. We had stage with smoke machine same as Tv and it was above all ....a great laugh...........all contestants had to pay a fee to enter plus raffles and takings you can earn a few quid!. got dvd of some of singers for ideas if you need.

But it's not off topic, the event was published purely as a fund raiser so the most important thing is what is it raising funds for. Then all the details about how it will be setup can go ahead.

I mean, if it's to raise funds for the International Fund then I will put my name in to sing, but if it's to raise funds for the Dennis Masterson appreciation society then perhaps not ;)

So sook those mothballs :P

If you want to riase funds, why not do a monthly "Lottery" through the website?

1 to enter, and the winner gets free IM entry, or Free accommodation at a 15's, 11's or free entry, etc, etc.....

It may work, no?

(Just as an aside to fund raising)

[b]NO SWEARING!![b] me, and i thought the banter on the DDPL was bad!!

Renzie/Maxi - get a room lads eh!! Yir flirting on here is nothing more than cringeworthy :) :P

I dont think it matters a hoot where the funds raised go, the fact is IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Fundraising can be something as small as Reido getting teams in the DDPL to try and sell a team card which is only 10 per team but even still, it went towards the Learning Disabilities team and EVERY LITTLE HELPED!!!!

If people are seriously going to start grumbling over where funds raised go they need to get a grip and put more effort into Fund Raising and less time into Fund Biatching!!!...........

I think its a fantastic idea, it will be a great night in Hustlers and i am sure there will be alot of talent on show. Im sure Daz and everyone who comes along will do their best to make this night a success and raise alot of which at the end of the day is what its all about, not who gets to spend it and where.

With regards to talent, i would say if he comes along the laddy Daryl McKenzie from Dunfermline is in with a good shout
